The Insurance Alliance of Michigan is offering important safety tips for parents, guardians, trick-or-treaters and drivers venturing out on Halloween night.
“All ghosts, vampires, princesses and superheroes should wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight, which will make it easier for drivers to spot them as they go from house-to-house trick-or-treating,” said Tricia Kinley, executive director of the Insurance Alliance of Michigan. “We’re also encouraging parents and guardians to accompany young children and ensure they don’t go inside anyone’s home or car to get candy.”
Other Halloween safety tips include:
Only stop at well-lit homes with porch lights on
Make sure costumes fit appropriately and aren’t too long, to prevent falls
Ensure masks don’t obstruct your child’s vision
Stay on sidewalks
Look both ways before crossing the street
Avoid crossing the street between parked cars
“For adults taking part in any Halloween festivities, don’t drink and drive. If you plan on having a few drinks, make sure you have a designated driver,” Kinley said. “Between taxis and rideshare services there are plenty of options for adults to get around safely.”
